Watch Our Garden Grow

Our garden is growing and flourishing! Sharna Nicholson and John DiCerbo (student volunteers from the Cornell Master Gardener program) take alternate weeks to come by and check on the garden they planted with our residents. While here they weed and make sure the plants are getting enough water. Recently Sharna came and share the flowers and beans with the group. She was so excited to see their amazement when they learned that the seeds they had planted for the beans had climbed so high. The residents also got to taste edible flowers and even put some in their hair. The kitchen here at San Simeon is also using some of the “ready to pick” vegetables in our cooking.

These donkeys are calm and very friendly with the residents, and they each have very different personalities. The residents spent the afternoon petting and brushing them. The donkeys were all dressed up with hooves painted purple to match their specially-made baseball hats. The ladies, along with the donkey handler, James, made the day so much fun!
