Read a Recipe for Literacy (RRL) Returns to San Simeon

On February 13th, the kids with Read a Recipe for Literacy (RRL) came back to San Simeon to read and share more stories with our residents. It was another wonderful day with the children and our residents truly enjoyed their stories. Some of the shyer children really came out of their shell and all of them were very well behaved. We are all starting to form friendships as the children sought out the residents they visited on the last gathering in April of last year.

RRL’s mission is to work to strengthen the community by empowering its members with better communication skills. And they do it by using recipes – literal and figurative ones – to build literacy. The organization was founded in 2007 under the auspices of the Weinig Foundation. Established in 1995, this fully-accredited 501 c (3) organization promotes education and literacy in innovative and engaging ways.

We are very thankful for the enriching partnership we have with RRL!
