Donkeys Come Back to Visit

East End Ass Whisperers (EEAWs) Return to San Simeon

On May 17th, during National Nursing Home Week, the East End Ass Whisperers came back to San Simeon. Our friends Harry & Cathy Springer and Bernadette & Emily Deerkoski come year after year to bring smiles to our residents! Together five donkeys visit and entertain us. Diesel, the most active, makes sure he says hello to everyone. Lil E. Putian, Pop E, Hope, and C. More (Ass) like to travel around the patio in pairs as they find comfort in each other. It is such a wonderful afternoon to be with our friends. They are such a joy.

More About EEAWs

East End Ass Whisperers are a group of miniature donkeys who perform ambassadorial duties to teach people about the role that donkeys have played from biblical times to today. They have been helpmates to man in mining, agricultural and construction functions for centuries. The members of this modern group visit therapeutic programs for challenged children and adults; they visit adult residences and nursing homes where their calm, gentle nature makes them favorite “guests”. Religious themes including Palm Sunday, blessing of the animals, Christmas Eve and living Nativity have featured the little donkeys. The EEAWs group has been featured in local newspapers, on WLNG and on News 12/55. They have been welcome participants at parades in Jamesport, Cutchogue, Southold and Greenport. The group has performed at the Hallockville Fall Festival and the Muttontown Horsemen’s Open House celebrations.
