Summer Activities for Seniors

Summer is the perfect time to head outdoors. There are many fun activities for every age, including seniors, to enjoy.

Here are a few popular ideas to try:

Gardening

If you enjoy puttering with plants, give gardening a try. It’s a great way to spend time in nature. Join a gardening club to learn and socialize with others.

Pool Time

Gentle swimming and low-impact water exercises are excellent for your body. The water helps to improve mobility and is good for cardiovascular and mental health.

Picnics

Gather with friends or family for an outdoor meal. Everyone who participates can bring a dish to share.

Ice Cream Socials

Bring back childhood memories with a scoop of ice cream. Socials offer a variety of ice cream choices and toppings.

Hiking

Take a stroll on a local trail. Find one that is easy to walk on and winds through nature.

Game Nights

Card or board games help keep your mind active, while you socialize. For a more challenging twist, try trivia competitions.

Book Clubs

Join or start a weekly book club. They are educational, stimulating, and perfect for connecting with other book lovers. Meet outside if the weather is nice.

Community Events

Parades, musical performances, fireworks and block parties are plentiful over the summer. Many of these public activities are free or low-cost.

Getting outside is good for your health. Seniors often lack exposure to sunlight and don’t get enough vitamin D. This nutrient is necessary for a healthy brain, bones and muscles.

San Simon by the Sound has a serenity garden on site and offers opportunities for outdoor therapeutic recreation and entertainment. So, there are plenty of ways to soak up the sun while having fun!
