Keeping Our Residents COVID-19-Free

Dear Family Member/Designated Representative,

I am writing to update you on our COVID-19 status at San Simeon.  To date, we continue to remain COVID-19 free among our resident population.  As you are likely aware, we have embarked on an aggressive employee testing program, and also recently completed testing for residents.  While we have had several positive results from previous employee testing (already reported to you), our overall numbers remain very low.  We had seven employees test positive during our first round of testing on May 20th and have received three more positives from testing performed in early June.  All positives among staff have come from asymptomatic individuals.  All staff are required, and we strictly adhere to, ensuring all staff are wearing proper protective equipment at all times while in the building, are limiting their time on resident units and exercising exceptional infection control practices to ensure we don’t infect our residents or other staff.  As I have mentioned in earlier emails, any positive testing employees are immediately removed from the schedule for minimally 14 days, and cannot return to duty until they provide proof of two negative COVID-19 tests.

We appreciate your patience with the no visitation mandate imposed by the Governor and we look forward to that restriction being removed at some point in the future.  In the meantime, please utilize the communication options available through the Activities Department to keep contact with your loved one.  If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me directly.

We hope you and your family continue to remain well throughout this crisis.

Respectfully,

Steven Smyth
