New Program – Tap Dancing Hands Down

First Time Offered on LI, NY

Here’s a little bit about Tap Dancing Hands Down starting in March at San Simeon.

Lucille Naar-Saladino has been dancing since she was 5 years old. She was a professional performer for 15 years and has been teaching for over 30 years. Tap dancing is her specialty. Lucille was a Radio City Rockette, danced in 42nd Street, and has danced and performed in many shows in Las Vegas and regional theater. She currently owns and operates MainStage Dance Academy in Greenport and Shelter Island as Executive and Artistic Director. Lucille’s students from MainStage have been performing for the residents of San Simeon since 2011.

Lucille Naar-Saladino - Tap Dancing Hands Down

Lucille is a certified teacher of Mary Rupert’s Tap Dancing Hands Down. This program has been designed to allow people of any age, who have limited mobility, learn how to tap dance – with their hands! The students must be cognitive and responsive in order to be involved in the program. They are given a wooden board to put on their lap or on a table. The taps are sewn onto gloves and the student taps with their hands. The program starts with a warm up, then the participants learn very simple tap steps and vocabulary. The teacher and the students do a call and response and the class ends with a simple tap routine! The program is very empowering for people who cannot stand for long periods of time and people that are disabled. They feel so good about themselves and what they have accomplished after and during the class.
